India VIX

In short

An index that measures the market's expectation of near-term volatility in the Nifty 50, based on option prices.

Updated Aug 9, 2026

India VIX is a volatility index computed by the NSE that reflects the market’s expectation of near-term (30-day) volatility, derived from the order book of Nifty 50 index options. A rising VIX generally signals growing uncertainty or fear among traders and tends to coincide with falling markets, while a falling VIX suggests calmer, more stable conditions. Options traders track VIX closely because higher volatility inflates option premiums across the board, affecting both buyers and sellers.
