218 Stocks. Where Do You Even Begin?

The NSE FNO segment has over 200 instruments. Without a structured market screener, a trader wastes the first hour of every session just trying to figure out which stocks are actually moving — and why.

No visibility into FNO-wide activity

Most tools show one stock at a time. Getting a market-wide picture means switching 20 tabs and losing context.

Generic screeners ignore options data

Stock screeners filter on price and volume. They completely miss OI buildup, IV range, and PCR — the signals that actually matter for F&O traders.

Slow, manual scanning wastes your morning

Manually scanning through sector by sector, stock by stock, is a 90-minute job. By the time you finish, the opportunity you were looking for is already gone.

No way to isolate market signals quickly

Knowing that "long buildup is happening" is not enough — you need to know exactly which stocks are seeing it, ranked, right now.

Data scattered across multiple columns

Spot price, futures OI, and options activity are never in one view. Connecting the dots across three different tools introduces lag and errors.

What is a Market Screener for FNO?

A market screener is a filter-and-rank engine that scans the entire NSE FNO segment — all 200+ stocks — and surfaces the ones meeting your specific trading criteria. Rather than watching individual stocks, it lets you ask the market a question: "Show me every stock with rising OI, increasing futures volume, and an IV below 30% right now."

An FNO-specific market screener goes further than a standard stock screener by including options data — implied volatility, put-call ratio, OI buildup patterns, and futures change. This is the difference between knowing a stock moved and knowing why it moved and whether an options position is worth taking.

Filter by what matters to you

Set custom ranges for IV, PCR, futures % change, and OI % change. The screener returns only the stocks that pass every filter simultaneously.

Quick filter presets save time

One click to isolate Long Buildup, Short Covering, Short Buildup, Long Unwinding, Price Gainers, or OI Gainers across all 200+ FNO stocks instantly.

Spot, Futures, and Options in one row

Each stock row shows spot LTP, futures LTP and OI, and options metrics — ATM IV, PCR, PE OI — in a single horizontal view with sortable columns.

Screener Insights at the bottom

Below the stock table, a market-breadth summary shows advance/decline ratio, total PE and CE OI, top gainers and losers, and sector breakdown in real time.

One Screener. Every FNO Signal You Need.

Stolo's market screener combines granular left-panel filters, one-click preset signals, multi-column data views, and real-time market insights into a single workspace designed for focused trading sessions.

Eight-Parameter Filter Sidebar for Precision Scanning

The left-side filter panel lets you narrow the entire FNO universe by eight independent parameters at once. Set a sector (Banking, Finance, Auto), pick an index (Nifty 50, Bank Nifty), choose a trend by OI action, filter gainers or losers, and set numeric ranges for IV, PCR, futures % change, and OI % change. Every filter compounds — the result is a precise list of stocks that satisfy all your criteria simultaneously.

  • Search by stock name or symbol
  • Filter by Indices and Sectors simultaneously
  • OI Action (Trend) dropdown for buildup signals
  • Numeric ranges for IV, PCR, Future % Change, OI % Change
  • All filters compound — no OR logic confusion

Seven One-Click Market Signal Filters

At the top of the screener, seven preset chips let you isolate specific market activity without touching the filter sidebar at all. Tap "Long Buildup" and you instantly see every FNO stock where price is up and OI is increasing — the classic accumulation signal. Tap "Short Covering" to find stocks where bears are exiting. These presets are designed for the first 15 minutes of a trading session when speed matters most.

  • Long Buildup — price up, OI up
  • Short Covering — price up, OI down
  • Short Buildup — price down, OI up
  • Long Unwinding — price down, OI down
  • Price Gainers / Price Losers / OI Gainers

Show and Hide Spot, Futures, or Options Columns

Three column-group toggles — Spot, Futures, and Options — let you focus on exactly the data that matters for your current trade type. If you are looking for a futures positional trade, hide the options columns and expand the futures view. If you are sizing an options position, flip to the Options columns for ATM IV, PCR, PE OI, and PE OI change. Each row also shows an inline day chart sparkline so you can assess trend direction without leaving the screener.

  • Spot: LTP and absolute + % change
  • Futures: LTP, OI, OI change, volume, volume change
  • Options: ATM IV, PCR, PE OI, PE OI change
  • Inline day chart sparkline per stock
  • Sortable columns — click any header to rank

Market Breadth, Top Movers, and Sector Breakdown

Below the stock table, the Screener Insights panel gives you the macro picture in one glance. You see the total advance-decline count and percentage for the current filtered view, total PE OI and CE OI across all visible stocks, the top gainers and top losers by percentage change, and a full sector breakdown showing how many stocks are advancing or declining per sector. This contextualises individual stock signals within the broader market mood.

  • Advance/Decline count and ratio
  • Total PE OI and CE OI aggregated
  • Top Gainers and Top Losers with price tags
  • Sector Breakdown with advance/decline per sector
  • Updates live as you change filters

What Does Your Market Screener Result Mean?

Every stock that passes your filter falls into one of four OI-based activity patterns. Understanding which pattern you are looking at is the difference between entering a position with conviction and chasing noise.

Long Buildup

Fresh Accumulation — Bullish

Price is rising and OI is rising simultaneously. New long positions are being added at higher levels, indicating that buyers have conviction and the move is fresh. This is typically the highest-quality setup for a directional options or futures trade. Confirm with a narrowing bid-ask spread and increasing futures volume.

Short Buildup

Institutional Shorting — Bearish

Price is falling and OI is rising. This pattern means fresh short positions are being initiated at lower prices — typically by larger participants who expect further downside. It is a confirmation of a bearish trend rather than a temporary dip. Treat this as a signal to look at put buying or futures short setups.

Short Covering

Bears Exiting — Caution

Price is up but OI is falling. Existing short positions are being closed, which pushes price higher — but this is not new buying conviction. The move can reverse sharply once covering is complete. Treat this as momentum, not trend. Avoid entering fresh long positions late in a short-covering rally without additional confirmation.

Long Unwinding

Longs Exiting — Risk-Off

Price is falling while OI is also falling. Existing long positions are being squared off, causing downward price pressure. This often signals exhaustion at a top or deteriorating sentiment. It does not necessarily mean new shorts are being built — it means existing longs have lost confidence. Use this to exit open long positions rather than initiating new shorts.

How to Use a Market Screener Like a Professional Trader

A screener is only as good as the workflow behind it. Most traders open a screener, click a few presets, and lose focus within minutes. A disciplined scan routine eliminates that noise and leaves you with a shortlist of two to three actionable setups before 9:30 AM.

Start Scanning Free
01

Open Market Screener from the Market Overview

Navigate to Market Overview and click the "Screener" tab in the top navigation. The screener loads the full FNO universe with default columns showing Spot, Futures, and Options data. All 218 FNO stocks are visible. The last-updated timestamp in the top right tells you exactly when the data was refreshed.

02

Set your macro context filters first

Start with the coarse filters in the left panel — pick your preferred sector (e.g., Banking) or index (e.g., Bank Nifty) to reduce the universe to a relevant subset. This prevents you from getting distracted by signals in sectors you are not trading that day. Then set an IV Range if you have a volatility preference for your options strategy.

03

Apply a quick filter preset to isolate a signal

Click one of the seven quick filter chips — Long Buildup is the best starting point for a trending market day. The screener immediately shows only stocks meeting that pattern. If the result is still too many stocks, layer in the PCR range or OI % Change filter from the sidebar to tighten the list to your top five candidates.

04

Use column toggles to focus on your trade type

Toggle the Spot / Futures / Options column groups to show only the data relevant to your setup. If you are looking at an options trade, enable the Options columns for ATM IV and PCR. If you are scalping futures, switch to Futures columns and sort by OI Change descending to surface the highest-activity contracts at the top.

05

Read Screener Insights for market breadth context

Scroll below the table to the Screener Insights section. Check the advance-decline ratio — if 70%+ of FNO stocks are declining, a bullish setup in one stock carries elevated risk. Review the sector breakdown to confirm that your shortlisted sector is not an isolated outlier. Top Gainers and Losers give you the extremes to avoid chasing.

06

Cross-reference with OI Analysis before entering

Click out from the screener into the OI Analysis or Option Chain for your shortlisted stock to verify the signal holds at the strike level. A Long Buildup in the screener confirmed by rising call OI at the nearest strike is a much higher-probability setup than a screener signal alone. Only then define your entry, stop-loss, and target before placing the trade.

Market Screener vs OI Screener vs Option Chain — What Each One Does

These three tools are often confused with each other. Each answers a different question at a different level of zoom.

Market Screener

Where across the FNO universe?

Scans all 200+ FNO stocks simultaneously and ranks them by your chosen criteria. Answers the question: which stocks should I be looking at right now?

  • Universe-wide scan
  • Spot + Futures + Options in one row
  • Filter by IV, PCR, OI change, sector
  • Quick signal presets (Long Buildup etc.)
OI Screener

What is OI doing in a stock?

Focuses specifically on open interest changes across stocks or strikes. Useful for isolating OI buildup patterns, but lacks the Spot and Options column context of a full market screener.

  • OI change rankings
  • Buildup pattern identification
  • No IV or PCR filtering
  • No sector or index context
Option Chain

What is happening at each strike?

Gives a deep, strike-by-strike breakdown for a single stock or index. Essential for sizing a trade once you have found the stock using a screener, but cannot scan multiple stocks at once.

  • Strike-level OI and IV detail
  • Max Pain, support/resistance via OI
  • One stock at a time
  • No cross-stock comparison

The Stolo workflow: Use the Market Screener to find the stock, the OI Analysis to confirm the signal, and the Option Chain to size and place the trade. Three tools, one platform.

A market screener for FNO trading is a tool that scans the entire NSE futures and options segment — typically 200 or more stocks — and filters them based on criteria you set, such as open interest change, implied volatility, price movement, PCR, or sector. Unlike a watchlist, which shows you only pre-selected stocks, a screener actively searches the full FNO universe and returns only the stocks that match your conditions right now. Stolo's market screener covers all NSE FNO stocks and updates in real time throughout the trading session, giving you a structured shortlist instead of an overwhelming list of possibilities.

Long Buildup is an OI-based pattern where a stock's price is rising while open interest is simultaneously increasing. This combination indicates that new long positions are being added at higher price levels — buyers are entering fresh trades with conviction, not just short sellers covering. In Stolo's market screener, tapping the "Long Buildup" quick filter instantly shows every FNO stock meeting this pattern at the current moment. It is generally considered one of the stronger bullish signals because it represents fresh accumulation rather than a short-squeeze bounce.

A regular stock screener filters on price, volume, and technical indicators derived from price history. Stolo's market screener is purpose-built for FNO traders and includes options-specific data in the filter set — implied volatility range, put-call ratio, futures OI, futures % change, and OI % change. Each stock row combines Spot, Futures, and Options data in a single horizontal view with column toggles, so you are never switching between tools to get the complete picture. The Screener Insights panel below the table also provides market breadth, advance-decline count, and sector breakdown — data that a generic stock screener never shows.

The Stolo market screener offers eight filter parameters in the left-side panel: Stock (search by name or symbol), Indices (e.g., Nifty 50, Bank Nifty), Sectors (Finance, Banking, Auto, Pharma, and more), Trend by OI Action (Long Buildup, Short Buildup, Short Covering, Long Unwinding), Gainers/Losers classification, IV Range (minimum and maximum implied volatility), PCR Range (minimum and maximum put-call ratio), Future % Change (minimum and maximum), and OI % Change (minimum and maximum). All filters compound, meaning a stock must satisfy every active filter to appear in the results.

Stolo's market screener has seven quick filter presets displayed as chips at the top of the screener view: Long Buildup (price up, OI up), Short Covering (price up, OI down), Short Buildup (price down, OI up), Long Unwinding (price down, OI down), Price Gainers (top percentage movers upward), Price Losers (top percentage movers downward), and OI Gainers (stocks with the highest OI increase). These presets are designed for speed — one click applies a multi-condition filter without requiring any manual configuration, making them ideal for the opening scan at the start of the trading session.

The IV Range filter accepts a minimum and maximum implied volatility value for the ATM options of each stock. Enter a minimum (e.g., 20) and maximum (e.g., 40) in the two fields in the left sidebar, and the screener returns only stocks whose current ATM IV falls within that range. This is useful for options strategy selection: traders looking for cheaper options to buy set a low IV cap, while those selling options to collect premium target a high IV floor. Combining the IV Range with the Long Buildup preset, for example, gives you stocks with fresh accumulation and elevated IV — a potentially strong long call setup.

The Screener Insights section appears below the main stock table and provides a market-breadth summary for all stocks currently visible in the screener. It shows the total count of stocks currently filtered, the advance percentage and decline percentage, total PE OI and CE OI aggregated across all filtered stocks, the top three gainers by percentage with their prices, the top three losers by percentage with their prices, and a full sector breakdown showing how many stocks in each sector are advancing versus declining. This section updates dynamically as you change filters, so it always reflects the breadth of the subset you are analysing.

Yes. Stolo's market screener has three column-group toggle buttons — Spot, Futures, and Options — positioned above the data table. Clicking any group label shows or hides all columns belonging to that group. For example, if you are only interested in futures activity, you can hide the Spot and Options column groups to reduce visual clutter and focus on futures LTP, OI, OI change, volume, and volume change. This is particularly useful on narrower screens or when you are presenting your analysis to someone else and want to highlight only one dimension of the data.

A market screener and an option chain answer different questions. The market screener answers "which stocks across the FNO universe should I look at right now?" by scanning 200+ stocks simultaneously against your filter criteria. The option chain answers "what is happening at each individual strike price for one specific stock?" by showing PE and CE OI, volume, and IV for every expiry and strike. The correct workflow is to use the market screener first to identify which two or three stocks warrant attention, then open the option chain for each of those stocks to determine the exact strike, expiry, and strategy for your trade.

Short Buildup happens when a stock's price is falling while OI is rising — new short positions are being added at lower prices, confirming a bearish trend with fresh conviction. Short Covering is the opposite scenario: price is rising while OI is falling, meaning existing short sellers are exiting their positions by buying back, which mechanically pushes price higher without any new bullish conviction. Both show upward price or downward price movement, but the OI direction tells you whether the market is expressing a new view or reversing an old one. Confusing these two patterns is one of the most common mistakes in OI-based trading.

Yes. The market screener data refreshes continuously throughout the trading session. A "Last Updated" timestamp is displayed in the top right corner of the screener, and a manual refresh button is available next to it if you want to force an immediate data pull. The screener draws from the same NSE data feed used across the Stolo platform, so the OI, price, and options data you see in the screener is consistent with what you see in the OI Analysis, Option Chain, and Market Heatmap — there is no discrepancy from stale or inconsistently sourced data.

Stolo's market screener covers the full NSE FNO segment — all stocks currently approved by NSE for futures and options trading. This includes all Nifty 50 constituents, Bank Nifty stocks, Midcap Select components, and the broader FNO-approved list. The total count displayed in the screener header (e.g., "Showing 218 of 218 stocks") reflects the live FNO-approved universe. When NSE adds or removes stocks from the FNO segment, Stolo's data updates accordingly. You can further filter by index membership (Nifty 50, Bank Nifty, etc.) or sector to see only the subset relevant to your trading focus.
