Market Pulse: Breadth, Sectors, Flows and Replay

Before you place a trade, you should know what the whole market is doing. Market Pulse in Stolo is the set of tools that answers that: how broad the move is, which sectors lead, what is driving each index, where the institutional money is going, and how past sessions unfolded. It is the context layer that sits above the instrument-level analysis.

The problem it solves

Trading one stock in isolation ignores the tide. A long in a strong-looking name still struggles when breadth is negative, its sector is red and FIIs are selling. Piecing the market picture together across a dozen pages is slow, so most traders skip it. Market Pulse puts breadth, sectors, flows and replay in one section.

Key terms explained

TermWhat it means
Market breadthHow widely a move is shared across individual stocks.
Sector rotationCapital moving from one industry group to another.
FII / DIIForeign and domestic institutional investors, the largest players.
ContributionA constituent's share of an index's points move.
DivergenceThe index and its breadth, or two indices, moving opposite ways.

A worked example

It is 9:35. Your pre-trade market check:

  • Heatmap: mostly green, 130 up and 50 down. Broad up day.
  • Sectors: Metal and Energy lead, FMCG lags.
  • Index Analysis: NIFTY and BANKNIFTY both up and agreeing.
  • FII and DII (from yesterday's close): FIIs net bought cash and added index futures longs.

The read: the odds favour longs today, in Metal or Energy names, with the institutions and breadth behind the move. You take that bias into the Market Screener to find the specific name, then to the option chain to pick strikes.

How the tools fit together

  1. Heatmap and breadth for the overall direction and how broad it is.
  2. Sectors for where the strength is.
  3. Index Analysis to confirm the indices agree.
  4. FII and DII for the institutional backdrop.
  5. Screener to turn the bias into a shortlist of names.
  6. Replay and Historical Bars to study and test, after the close.

Market Pulse is context, not a trade trigger. Stolo does not auto-trade. Use it to set your bias, then take the entry from price and your own method.

Frequently asked questions

What is Market Pulse in Stolo?
Market Pulse is a set of tools for reading the state of the whole market rather than one instrument: a heatmap, market breadth, sector strength, what is moving each index, institutional flows, historical data and a session replay. You use it before a trade to set your bias and pick where to focus.
Which tools are in the Market Pulse section?
The market heatmap, the Market Screener, Advances and Declines, Sectors Analysis, Index Analysis, Index Constituents, FII and DII Activity, Historical Bars, Market Replay and TradingView charts.
Why check the market before trading a single stock?
A stock rarely fights the market. If breadth is negative, sectors are red and FIIs are selling, a long in one name is swimming against the tide. Checking the market pulse first tells you whether the odds favour longs or shorts today and which sector to work in.
What is market breadth?
Breadth is how widely a move is shared across individual stocks. The index can rise while most stocks fall, carried by a few heavyweights. The heatmap and Advances and Declines views measure breadth so you know whether an index move has the broad market behind it.
How do these tools fit with the options and futures analysis?
Market Pulse sets the context: direction, breadth, sector, flows. Once you have a name and a bias, you move to the option chain, open interest and futures views for the instrument-level detail and to pick strikes.
Do the Market Pulse tools update live?
The intraday tools, the heatmap, breadth, sectors, indices, screener and constituents, stream through the session. FII and DII activity is a daily after-close read. Historical Bars and Market Replay work on past data.
Can I replay a past trading day?
Yes. Market Replay plays any past session forward at 1x to 10x with price, OI, PCR and breadth advancing together, so you can study how a setup formed. Individual tools also have a history date picker for a static past view.
How often should I check the market pulse during the day?
Once at the open to set the bias, once mid-morning, and once in the last hour is usually enough. Breadth and sector leadership change slowly, so constant checking adds little.
Which plan includes the Market Pulse tools?
They are part of Stolo's paid analysis access and can be tried on the Trial plan, which starts at 299 rupees. See the subscription plans page for the current tiers.
